BTX-A injectables counteract wrinkles by temporarily inhibiting muscle contraction. They blocks nerve cells from releasing acetylcholine, which triggers the muscles. Skin then appears smooth and remains crease free.

The FDA has approve three formulation of BTX-A) for cosmetic use: Botox, Dysport and Xenamin. Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA) was approved in 2002, Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) in 2009 and Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) in 2011.

All can also slightly and temporarily facial aspects. BTX-A formulations are injected into the orbicularis oculi muscles in specific points, which surround the eye area.

Typically, BTX-A injectables’s efficacy is apparent for three to four months. Once the nontoxin protein diminishes, crows feet reappear similar to before the treatment.
