Frown lines are vertical lines that develop between the eyebrows. They are also referred to as the elevens or glabellar lines.
Frown lines are caused by the contraction of muscles such as the procerus muscles and the corrugator supercilli muscles. The procerus muscles are a triangular group above the nose. And the corrugator muscles are below the eyebrows. Both of them contribute to the development of vertical frown lines between the brows.
Also sun damage will weaken the structure of the collagen and elastin fibers of the skin. This will reduce its elasticity and make it more prone to developing creases.
When Botox is injected into the muscles that cause frown lines, this causes them to relax. The muscles are not able to crease the skin and create vertical lines between the brows.
Dysport works the same way as Botox. It relaxes the frown line muscles between the eyes to help prevent them from contributing to a crease.
Some people will respond better to one or the other. Although Botox and Dysport are very similar, Botox has more proteins. And this may cause the immune system of some individuals to reject it. They may see better results with Dysport as a result.
On the other hand, there are those who may see better results with Botox. The quality of the results and the choice between one injection over the other will be different depending on one’s physiology.
It is understandable that some people may not want to use Botox or Dysport. For these individuals, other options are available. For example Radiesse or Belotero can be used to simply fill in the vertical crease(s) so that they are no longer visible when the face is at rest. While this can be useful for static wrinkles (visible when the face is at rest), filling in creases will not prevent the occurrence of dynamic wrinkles which appear when the face is moving or making facial expressions.
