LASER SKIN TREATMENT OPTION FOR ASIAN SKIN TONES

A low-energy, low-density 1,440 nanometer fractional laser is an effective laser skin treatment for treating photodamage in Asian patients, according to results of a small study. The patients had Fitzpatrick skin types III to V and had visible signs of photodamage. The patients were given four treatments with a 1,440 nanometer fractional laser at two-week intervals.

Researchers from Hong Kong Dermatology and Laser Centre, Hong Kong, conducted a prospective single-arm study of 10 Chinese patients. The study was published online March 14 in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine. An important factor is that the laser skin treatment targets only problems areas and leaves surrounding skin unaffected.

All fractional photothermolysis treatments, which Fraxel pioneered in 2001, treat microscopic volumes of skin with each pulse. A series of four treatments with the laser demonstrated mild improvement in texture, pigmentation and wrinkling, according to the study. Due to the fractional treatment, downtime is shorter for healing.

FRAXEL RE:FINE FOR LASER SKIN REJUVENATION

Fraxel is a brand of fractional lasers used to treat an array of skin conditions suitable for Asian patients. After just one laser skin rejuvenation treatment, skin becomes softer and smoother. Additionally, Fraxel laser treatments repair aging skin and sun damage, eradicate fine lines and wrinkles, and improve uneven complexions.

The Fraxel re:fine and DUAL laser skin rejuvenation treatments aggravate the surface and slightly below. The Fraxel re:pair treatment ablates (vaporizes) tissue on the deer epidermis layer. Areas treated begin the wound healing process to improve or eradicate imperfections.

FRAXEL RE:FINE, FRAXEL DUAL AND FRAXEL REPAIR LASER OPTIONS

Fraxel re:fine is the gentlest Fraxel laser. It works best on superficial treatments with its 1,410 nanometer laser. It’s effective for minor skin issues, skin rejuvenation and resurfacing. Fraxel re:fine works on all skin types and areas of the body. It targets water rather than melanin. To achieve the best results, treatments are four to six session with two to four week intervals.

Fraxel DUAL is the most popular Fraxel laser. Its dual lasers address mild to moderate skin concerns. The Erbium fiber laser penetrates deeper layers of the skin (1,550 nanometer). The Thulium fiber laser is more superficial (1,927 nanometer). To achieve the best results, treatments are three to five session with two to four week intervals.

Both Fraxel re:fine and Fraxel DUAL may be used on all skin tones and on the entire body. Fractional non-ablative treatments are safe on all skin tones, Fitzpatrick scale I to VI. The fractional ablative treatment is safe on light to medium skin types, I to III.

Fraxel re:pair is an ablative treatment that addresses severe acne scars, vascular dyschromia, pigmented lesions, rhytides, fine lines, textural irregularities and moderate to severe wrinkles and furrows in lax skin. It is a more invasive treatment that vaporizes skin with the dermis.
