Scar tissue generally develops as a way for the skin to heal itself from trauma. Injuries can can be caused by heat, inflammation or impact from a sharp object. Fibroblast cells in the dermis will produce very thick collagen tissue. This is done to help fortify and protect the skin. However, many individuals are not happy with the cosmetic appearance of scars. Fraxel Dual is a laser that can be used to help diminish certain types of scars.

This Los Angeles patient underwent a punch biopsy at another clinic. A punch biopsy is when a sample of skin is removed using a surgical punch tool. This tissue is then examined to see if a disorder is present.

The procedure left a round, pitted scar at the tip of his nose.

Fraxel Dual As A Treatment Choice

Dr. Umar used Fraxel Dual to address this patient’s scar for the following reasons:

(1) Fraxel Dual can be used to trigger the skin’s own processes for producing normal collagen. This is the collagen that exists throughout the skin. The new collagen would help lift the indentation to help make it look flatter and more even.

(2) Fraxel Dual uses long wavelengths that will not scatter and overreact with melanin in the skin. Melanin is a pigment that tends to absorb most forms of laser energy very easily. This will cause darker skin to overheat and develop complications such as hyperpigmentation and scarring.  The wavelengths of Fraxel Dual are safe for all types of skin.

Patient’s Results

Fraxel Dual was able to minimize the depth of the scar and produce noticeable improvement. Here is a picture of the patient after his treatment.
