Wrinkle Treatment and Drinking Green Tea

Los Angeles patients should choose comprehensive wrinkle treatment options

Green tea is not a trendy Los Angeles diet fad.  It may serves as  a good supplement for ongoing wrinkle treatment or prevention.  Many people are aware that it is a good source of antioxidants like polyphenols.

The benefits of drinking green tea are now being supported by research.  According to a study published by the Journal of Nutrition in 2011, drinking green tea actually produced measurable improvements in the skin.

How the Research Was Conducted

Sixty randomly selected women participated in this study. Their ages ranged from forty to sixty years.  Some of the women were asked to drink tea with polyphenols. And the others were asked to drink a similar tea without this compound.  This was done for twelve weeks.  Neither the researchers nor the subjects knew what they were drinking.

All of the subjects were classified as type II on the Fitzpatrick scale.  This is characterized by having very fair skin that is UV sensitive.  The skin of such individuals is more subject to sun damage. They would  most likely require a more aggressive medical wrinkle treatment to help reverse these effects.

A UV lamp was used to simulate sun exposure to cause changes in skin color (i.e. tanning which is an indication of sun damage).

Researchers measured different parameters of the skin such as:

1) elasticity

2) skin density

3) scaling

4) roughness

5) influx of oxygen and blood to the skin

Results of the Study

According to the results, green tea that is rich in polyphenols did create create a significant difference in the skin.  These women displayed:

1) Less change in skin color by 16% at six weeks

2) Less change in skin color by 25% at twelve weeks

The researchers also noted that this group also had reduced roughness and scaling.  Skin elasticity and density also improved. And the blood and oxygen flow had also improved by a significant margin.

Green Tea and Wrinkle Treatment

Green tea itself is not a treatment for getting rid of wrinkles.  Nor should it be thought of as a cure for wrinkles. However it can supplement the effects of ongoing skin care.  Also green tea can be consumed regularly to help prevent signs of aging. And most importantly, it will contribute to overall health and well being.
