Because acne affects more than 80% of teens and people in their early twenties, even 5% of older adults’ acne scars are a typical result.  Acne comes from hair follicles, commonly known as pores, which get plugged with dead skin and oil. Bacteria then grows in those pores where it then makes red bumps, known more commonly as pimples. Acne scars result from healed acne lesions often years prior to presentation. At FineTouch Dermatology, various modalities for effectively treating this condition exist, including:

Fraxel Repair laser: The newest product in the Fraxel family, Fraxel repair treatment is a preemptive strike against a facelift. It produces dramatic improvement for severely damaged skin. This is a single treatment procedure, but will require more downtime and after treatment wound care.

Fraxel Restore laser: Can produce significant results for mild to moderately damaged skin over the course of 3 to 6 treatments. Typically, there is no after treatment wound care with these treatments and downtime is minimal.

Surgical treatment: The depressed floors of acne scar trough are surgically elevated to blend better with surrounding skin.
