Botox and Dysport are basically two different brands of botulinum toxin type A. Botox is manufactured by Allergan. And Dysport is manufactured by Medicis.

Although they are basically the same drug, they each have slightly different chemical structures. Dysport has a fewer number of proteins compared to Botox. These proteins are sometimes perceived as foreign substances that the body rejects.

So Dysport may be accepted by some patients more easily than Botox. Does this mean they perform differently?

Research study on Botox and Dysport for Crows Feet Treatment

A study in the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery tested the effects of Botox and Dysport on crows feet on ninety participants. Botox was injected on one side of the face. And Dysport was injected on the other.

According to the findings, Dysport did a better job of improving the appearance of dynamic crows feet wrinkles. These are seen when the face is moving (e.g. smiling or laughing)

Static wrinkles are seen when the face is at rest. This is because the creases are etched on the skin. Because Botox and Dysport only address the muscles and not the skin, they performed the same on static wrinkles.

Los Angeles Patient Shares His Experience With Botox and Dysport

Botox

Los Angeles patient who experienced the effects of both Botox and Dysport*

This patient’s experience with both Botox and Dysport is quite interesting. He was a long time user of Botox. And he decided to try out Dysport.

According to his testimony, it was clear that Dysport outperformed Botox. The results of Dysport started to become evident on the same day as his procedure. With Botox, it usually takes a few days, up to a week to see results.

Also, he had been struggling to get rid of the stubborn frown lines between his brows. Dysport succeeded in accomplishing this.

Botox versus Dysport

There is really no definitive answer on which of these two injections is better. Some patients will respond better to Botox. Others will find better results with Dysport. If one does not work well, the other should be considered.
