What is Restylane?

Restylane is the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler available on the market. It is most often used for lip augmentation procedures and filling laugh lines (or nasolabial folds) around the nose and mouth.

What is hyaluronic acid?

[DDET ]
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar  in our bodies. It is able to augment tissue as well as holding numerous water molecules. These properties make it ideal for cosmetic purposes.
The HA used in fillers like Restylane and Perlane are derived from bacteria, not from animal sources. It is processed in order to create cross linkages between the molecules and to purify it.
The pattern and structure of cross linkages is mainly what makes one hyaluronic acid filler different from the others.

What is Perlane?

Perlane is another hyaluronic acid filler that was approved by the FDA in 2007. It is related to Restlylane. The filler solution is made of hyaluronic acid microspheres.  Perlane is made of larger gel particles compared to Restylane.  Therefore, it is more ideally suited for deeper wrinkles and folds.

What issues can be treated with Restylane?

Restylane is primarily used to fill nasolabial folds around the nose and mouth. It i often a good choice as a laugh line (same as nasolabial folds) filler  for issues that require precision. Restylane can also be used for lip enhancement procedures.

What issues can be treated with Perlane?

Perlane is made of larger gel particles. Therefore, it is particularly suitable for deeper folds in the nasolabial areas. And it can fill marionette lines as well.  Perlane is sometimes used to replenish lost facial volume.

Can Restylane be used under the eyes?

Restylane is a particulate hyaluronic acid solution. It is a clear solution made of particles suspended in gel. Therefore,  this filler is subject to a light phenomenon in physics known as the Tyndall effect.
When light rays pass through a clear colloid gel, they have the tendency to scatter. And this will create a bluish hue that looks like a bruise. Since the skin under the eyes is quite thin, this will be very prevalent.

How long does Restylane last?

The effects of Restylane last between six to eight months. However, the exact duration will vary across individuals

How long does Perlane last?

Perlane will last between six to twelve months. Again, the exact time frame for each person will be different. This often depends on where it is injected and how fast the filler will metabolize.

What are the side effects of Restylane and Perlane

Common Restlylane and Perlane side effects include:  temporary swelling and bruising. Lumps may also form.  However, these lumps can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase.
