Board Certified Dermatologist
Dr. Sanusi Umar is certified by the American Board of Dermatology, prior to which he was certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine. He also completed a fellowship training in cosmetic surgery under the direction of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery. As a pioneer in hair transplant surgery, he is widely published in his field, appearing in respected journals such as the Journal of Dermatology and General Medicine, and he gives presentations at national and international conferences.
A native of Nigeria, Dr. Umar trained as a surgeon at the UniMaid College of Medical Sciences in Nigeria and did his housemanship in the country of Namibia. Dr. Umar completed his first residency training in Internal Medicine at the Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, New York. During his residency, his work and research in the field of infectious disease was recognized with a first place award from the Long Island Infectious Diseases fellows’ competition, International AIDS conference in Geneva, Switzerland. He was again honored to chair a session at the International AIDS conference in Durban South Africa.
He completed a second residency in Dermatology at the Martin Luther King Medical Center in Los Angeles. He is a A fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, Dr. Umar is also an associate faculty at the Harbor-UCLA Dermatology Department, where he combines teaching with cutting-edge research. He is a pioneer in the field of follicle unit extraction – FUE and the inventor of the uGraft method of Advanced FUE a technique where individual units of hair are transplanted from anywhere on the body to the head and reverse hair loss. He is widely published in his field, and often presents at national and international conferences.
