Every person has moles—whether they are naturally born with them or develop them throughout their lifetime. Sometimes moles can be considered beauty marks and can be found attractive, but other times moles can be unsightly and need to be removed. Moles are typically located on the upper or lower parts of the back or the abdomen but they can also appear on the legs, foot soles, arms, hand palms, or even in the mucous membranes of the mouth. Here in Los Angeles at FineTouch Dermatology, a number of people come to see Dr. Umar to remove such moles for either cosmetic reasons or health reasons through a procedure known as Nevus Mole Removal.

Living in a sunny city such as Los Angeles, it is no surprise that people develop most of their moles during their childhood to early adulthood. A single mole is called a “nevus” and multiple moles are called “nevi.” Moles occur when melanocytes grow in clusters rather then being spread throughout the skin. Typically melanocytes give skin its natural color by producing the pigment melanin but under ultraviolet light such as the sun or tanning beds, the pigment darkens and if it clusters, moles form. A nevus looks like a dark-colored patch and can be brown to blue-black color, may or may not contain hair, the bordering can be uneven or regular, and its surface may be smooth or irregular. Every nevus is different so it is best to have each one checked to make sure they are not cancerous and to see if you need nevus mole removal.

Dr. Umar’s patients come to Los Angeles to have him determine whether or not to receive nevus mole removal. There are a number of nevus mole removal treatments, but at FineTouch Dr. Umar will come up with the best treatment that works for that particular patient. Depending on a person’s age and health, the size, location and growth history of the nevus, Dr. Umar will decide what needs to be done. Nevus hair removal treatment includes a checkup for potential skin cancers and if need be, the surgery to remove the nevus if it is a health disaster. So do not hesitate to call and schedule an appointment with Dr. Umar to check out the nevi on your body.
