Juvéderm is an injectable gel filler used to temporarily plump skin’s volume and smooth wrinkles. It consists of bacterial hyaluronic acid cross-linked during the manufacturing process to turn the liquid into a gel for injection. Effects and enhancements typically last six months to one year.

Juvéderm promotes a healthier, more youthful facial appearance. It counteracts sagging, loss of volume and wrinkles due to aging. Aging naturally reduces the amount of hyaluronic acid in tissue, which results in loss of hydration.

JUVÉDERM FORMULATIONS

Juvéderm is available in two formulations, Ultra and Ultra Plus. Ultra is used for facial contouring and adding volume to wrinkles. Ultra Plus is used for volume and to correct deeper folds and wrinkles. Both Juvéderm formulations are injected into the mid to deep dermis.

Both formulations consist mainly of the natural sugar, hyaluronic acid. Also known as hyaluronate or hyaluronan, it’s a carbohydrate polymer. It is naturally found in the skin, muscles and tendons. Additionally, it’s a component of the extracellular matrix and synovial fluid found in joints. Juvéderm is formulated with lidocaine to make the injection procedure more pleasant. However, a doctor may further numb an area of treatment.

JUVÉDERM COSMETIC APPLICATION

Juvéderm treats nasolabial folds, which are also known as smile lines or parentheses. The wrinkles form around natural smile creases from the lower tips of the nose curving out, then down just below the mouth. It also enhances volume when used on the cheeks, crow’s feet and the area under the eyes.

Due to its volume boosting properties, Juvéderm is also used on scar tissue and lips. It may be used to fill the recesses on the skin’s surface due to acne scarring. For lips, injections make them plumper. Aging results in the diminished volume of lips, which Juvéderm addresses up to a year.

The Ultra formulations lasts six to nine months on average. The Ultra Plus formulation lasts nine months to a year on average.
