The Different Types of Fraxel Lasers

If you are considering having a Fraxel procedure done, it is helpful to have a basic understanding of how it works and three treatment levels that are available. Each of these levels use a different laser.

Fraxel works through a process called fractional photothermolysis. It’s precision allows practitioners to work on tiny areas of the skin without disrupting surrounding areas.

  • Sun damage
  • Acne Scars
  • Fine Lines
  • Deep Lines

Fraxel Dual

Fraxel Dual is one of the most recent advances in Fraxel laser technology.

It uses a dual fraction laser combining two wavelengths. This is a new advancement that allows patients to get the same results as the older procedure with fewer treatments.  The older Fraxel Re: Store used a single wavelength. The risks of scarring are low with the restoration treatment which works to tighten skin It is a combination of both the refining and restoration procedures that were available prior to the availability of Dual.

Fraxel Dual also uses a fractional fiber laser to provide a gentle refining treatment for the skin, making it smoother while removing pigmentation anddiminishing fine lines.  The procedure uses a particular spectrum of light called the 1927 thulium laser. This is used for superficial lesions & pigments.

For deeper areas of the skin, such as wrinkles and collagen stimulation, the wavelength of the older Re:store  technology is used.

Fine Touch Dermatology is one the few clinics in Southern California that has the capabilities of Re:store and Re:fine under one roof.

Benefits of Fraxel Dual

Because of Fraxel Dual ethnic patients with darker skin types can receive the anti aging benefits of aesthetic laser procedures. Prior to this innovation, they faced the risk of permanent scarring.

Additional with Fraxel Dual, downtime is very minimal. After the procedure, there is a period of 3-4 days when their skin is mildly red. And they are able to resume their normal routine.Fraxel Re:Pair

Unlike Re: Store and Re:Fine, Fraxel Re:Pair is an ablative procedure that removes  skin layers. It also uses fractional laser technology. Downtime is longer, but patients only need one treatment.
