Women with weak, damaged, sparse or short lashes have a new option for the permanent restoration of long, radiant lashes. An eyelash hair transplant allows for a permanent improvement with longer, thicker and growing eyelashes. It’s a safe, effective way to restore living and growing lashes to your eyelid.

Like many women, this patient continually wore eyelash extensions. Eyelash extensions are artificial fibers applied to each eyelash with a surgical grade adhesive by a professional. In this case, the patient noted the high cost of the eyelash extension procedures over time and also how it caused many of her own eyelashes to fall out.

EYELASH HAIR TRANSPLANT PROCEDURES WITH DR. SANUSI UMAR

The patient consulted with Dr. Sanusi Umar for a permanent solution with less side effects and opted for an eyelash restoration. His uGraft technique, also known as the Umar Procedure, is an advanced form of Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). FUE entails the extraction of individual follicular units with harvesting done using 0.8 to 1.2 millimeter punches.

Dr. Umar extracted follicles from the nape area on the back of her neck for this procedure. The UGraft technique is as a surgical system he created that includes highly specialized punches and creates varying wound shapes. Procedures typically require approximately 30 to 40 hair follicles to achieve the desired density and length of eyelashes.

Grafts are then inserted through tiny slits into the lash line. Pain management includes local anesthetics and possible sedatives to help achieve a more relaxed state for the patient. She was awake during the procedure.

Below are patient photos four months after her eyelash restoration. Dr. Umar expects further improvements are expected to take place.

The transplanted nape hair will continue to grow after the surgery at the lash line. All patients will need to occasionally trim eyelashes to the their desired length, even after they are inserted in the lash line. Hair follicles maintain their original nature with length and volume, even when implanted elsewhere. Additionally, patients will need to use an eyelash curler to achieve the natural curve of eyelashes with the transplanted lashes.
