People who suffer eyebrow hair loss may feel like an important physical attribute is missing. Low self-esteem, feelings of self-consciousness, and even depression are normal responses to loss of eyebrow hair. This facial feature is not only needed to help shape and frame the eyes. It is also a key element in expression and has functional duties as well, like keeping sweat out of the eyes.

If you are one of the millions of people applying cosmetic pencil along your brow bone every day, or getting tattoos touched up every few months, there is now a better way. A segment on KNBC Health News interviewed Dr. Umar and discussed his eyebrow hair transplant method.

Why Some People Lose Their Eyebrows

Eyebrow hair loss is very common. It can occur for the following reasons:

  • -Years of cosmetic tweezing or plucking
  • -Hormonal fluxes
  • -Aging
  • -Autoimmune disorders
  • -Chemotherapy/Radiation
  • -Trichotillomania
  • -Scarring from a burn, surgery, or an accident

The woman in the video below had genetically thin eyebrows to start with.  A combination of cosmetic plucking and aging had caused them to grow thinner with time. She says her eyebrow transplant makes her feel like a different person. This subtle, yet noticeable improvement has restored her confidence.

How Dr. Umar Does Eyebrow Transplant

Dr. Umar takes a non-traditional approach to eyebrow transplant, which yields ideal aesthetic results. His FUE-based uGraft tool creates maximum efficiency, minimal risk of graft burial and transection of donor hairs, and enables the best outcomes.

His proprietary handheld tool excises the hair in individual 1mm punches. Instead of taking hair from the scalp as traditional methods call for, he fills the eyebrows with donor hair from the nape of the neck, the legs, or the arms. These hairs, which are finer in nature and have a natural curve, blend excellently along the brow bone. They are also shorter and slow-growing, which facilitates infrequent maintenance and trimming of the transplanted follicles (since donor hairs will retain their inherent disposition).

The Procedure and Healing

The transplant takes a few hours, generally. Depending on the sparseness of the brows and the patient’s goals, Dr. Umar may use anywhere from 75 to 300 hairs per eyebrow. After the transplant is done, the microscopic wounds will close on their own–no stitches or staples. Within one to two weeks, all flaking should shed from the donor and recipient areas. Scarring in both of these areas will also be small to negligible. New growth should begin around 4 to 6 months.

More Patients of Dr. Umar

This prior patient of Dr. Umar suffered a displeasing loss of eyebrow hair due to aging and over-tweezing. Finding a permanent solution in eyebrow transplant has made her life more convenient, without the need for tattooing and make-up pencil in this area.

Many are surprised to learn that men are the more common recipients of eyebrow transplant. Thick eyebrows are considered masculine and desirable. This patient was tired of his genetically thin brows and wanted that more defined look.
