Two years ago, Los Angeles celebrity Simon Cowell gave  each of his X-Factor co-stars (Cheryll Cole, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue) Botox vouchers, worth $4500 a piece.

The famous talent judge, known for his brutal honesty, blatantly admitted to using the injection himself, “ To me, Botox is no more unusual than toothpaste. It works, you do it once a year. Who cares?”

In 2011, ABC news reported that plastic surgery may have been the year’s hottest Christmas gift.  The story talked about one woman who purchased Botox for her older sister.  It also gave the example of a boyfriend who purchased two treatments for his girlfriend: Botox and Juvederm.  The recipient thought that these gifts were “a hundred times better” than the perfume he gave her the year prior.

Although it may seem that women are demanding these types of beauty treatments, men are also putting Botox at the top of their wish lists.  This trend has been given the nick name of “Bro-tox.”

The British news site, Mail Online, also confirmed the rise in Botox procedures among men.  In 2011, 300,000 injections were performed on males in the U.S, representing a 10% increase from 2010.  One doctor explained, “It’s still a competition in our society for looks and, you know, better looking men get paid more, and they get prettier girls.”

According to Healthcentral.com, men and women share common reasons for undergoing Botox. Images in society pressure both sexes to look younger.  According to some people, wrinkles on men (e.g. frown lines) make them look angry and unapproachable. Also they may want to compete with younger candidates for jobs.

Feel free to share your thoughts on giving Botox for men, or giving cosmetic procedures as a Christmas gifts.

If you do decide to give a friend, family member or significant other Botox or other injection for the holidays, remember that they must first get a consultation to review their anti aging objectives and to see if there could be potential complications.
