This patient underwent three prior surgeries before being treated by Dr. Umar. During his third surgery in 2007, doctors removed part of his Acne Keloidalis Nuchae growth. However the lesion came back.

Drugs for Treating Acne Keloidalis Nuchae

Medication was able to provide some relief. Sometimes antibiotics are prescribed to kill microbes. These organisms enhance the body’s inflammatory response which then enlarges the lesions. Steroids are used to constrict the blood vessels with the intention of decreasing blood flow to the region. Hence, there would be fewer white blood cells that would contribute to the inflammation. Ultimately though, medication does not clear the Acne Keloidalis Nuchae growths. The best treatment is removal through surgery.

Recurring Acne Keloidalis Nuchae Condition – One Patient’s Journey

This patient’s tumor measured about 7 inches in length and 2 inches high. Although he has been through several past surgeries to remove the lump in the back of the neck,  his condition kept coming back. In order for excision to be successful and permanent, the right surgical techniques need to be applied.

Dr. Umar removed the tumor mass from this patient. And he implemented a method that would allow the wound to close completely over a period of time.

The patient was left with a horizontal linear scar. However, Dr. Umar was able to make this less noticeable by aligning it with the posterior hairline.  It is also possible to revise the appearance of the scar at a later point.

Of course, Acne Keloidalis Nuchae is associated with uncomfortable symptoms like itching and discharge. But individuals are usually most bothered by the self consciousness they feel in social situations. This patient mentions that these feelings were affecting his confidence in job searches.

Before and After Video

This video was taken three weeks after the patient’s wound healing process was finalized.

The results of the surgery truly gave him a new sense of freedom. And he is now able to wear his hair short. The patient remarked, “I finally got my life back. I’m happy that it’s better now. And I can move on with my life.”
