TISSUE AUGMENTATION
Tissue augmentation, or soft tissue augmentation, is one of the most sought after cosmetic procedures around the world. It has been performed for centuries, but only in this decade or so have materials become available that allow effective therapy. Soft tissue augmentation has revolutionized the treatment of the aging face. It is the use of tissue and other materials in cosmetic surgery, and it is a technique in which a substance is injected under the skin to add bulk to the tissue. Soft tissue augmentation usually means that the exterior of the skin, usually on the face, or the lips are treated. These tissues are grafted, injected, or implanted and have seen successful results in helping clear wrinkles and scars from the skin. Tissue augmentation can use synthetic tissue, tissue from some other donor, or grafted tissue from the patients themselves.
Tissue augmentation is composed of different techniques that are used to re-contour depressed or deflated skin surfaces by raising it. Grooves, lines, troughs, and fat loss caused by aging, disease and accidents are corrected by these techniques. One of the earliest signs of aging is the loss of facial fullness (deflation) and the accentuation of grooves and wrinkles (e.g., laugh lines, etc.). Tissue augmentation could restore facial fullness, soften grooves and facial lines for a more youthful look.
